THE PAT BROWN DOCUMENTARY

The Pat Brown Documentary film will unravel a classic American tale: the story of Edmund G. "Pat" Brown, who rose against all odds to hold the state's hightest office, and shaped the future of the largest and most powerful state in the nation.

The chronicles of Governor Pat Brown's sweeping successes paints an impressive portrait: The Fair Housing Act, The Fair Employment Act, The Master Plan for Higher Education — which arguably made the state's public college and university system the best in the world — the building of highways, and what historians have called the "most significant public water project in world history."

By examining the life and legacy of the man who historians agree ushered California into the modern era, a compelling brand of politics will be revealed. In particular, the film will follow Pat Brown's crusade to buld the California Aqueduct, and his epic battle to fight the death penalty.

An Intimate Journey

Told through the eyes of Brown's youngest granddaughter, this will be an intimate journey into the heart and mind of the man cited as the "Architect of the Golden State." Brown's character and spirit provide an inspiring template for what we should expect from leaders in today's complex world.

While this intimate portrait will draw upon family photos and home movies, a key component will be licensing archival footage. Your generous donations will help in this, as well as enabling us to assemble a quality team to create a first class documentary ready for festivals and commercial broadcast.

We will tap the memories of those who knew Brown, and enlist journalists, historians, contemporary thinkers and politicians to ground the narrative and offer a critical perspective from many angles: political, philosophical, spiritual and psychological.

We have also allocated funds for an educational curriculum that will bring the film directly into schools to reach younger generations.
